This may make me sound like an awful parent… but I don’t believe my almost 9 month old needs hundreds of gifts.
I plan to buy diapers, wipes, some clothes, and whatever necessities we need for her. We will buy a toy (a teether or something age appropriate) but giving her a lot of them seems unnecessary. She’s a baby. She won’t remember this Christmas and she won’t be old enough to open her own presents. She might have enough energy to open one before she becomes bored and moves on to attacking the ornaments on the tree…🤷♀️
I don’t understand why people buy so much for their babies who are less than a year old at Christmas time. To prove some point that you can? Then why don’t you buy it any other time? Why wait until Christmas? They won’t remember. You can take a picture of them opening one or two gifts so you’ll have that. You won’t have as much wrapping paper to throw away (or recycle, however you choose), and you wont be stuck hoarding a bunch of toys that your baby probably won’t play with for more than a day, or hour.
I have an 11year old too… who “needs” the most expensive, extravagant gifts known to man. And the last couple years we could afford to buy her some of these things, like the hoverboard every child in the world needed a few years ago. You know where that hoverboard is now? Sitting in the same exact spot it has been for over 2 years. She got on it once. Once. So this year she’s not getting the crazy expensive gift because it’s pointless. We spend so much money buying hoverboards, fingerlings, hatchimals, (and yes, she has probably 20 fidget spinners all over our house that also haven’t been touched in forever), etc… that these kids just play with once and then move onto the next big thing. I’m choosing this year to buy her things that may not be the “popular” option, but are things she’ll like and use often. Including an advent calendar of makeup from her favorite place. It was worth the 30 dollars, would definitely do it again, to make my daughter smile every morning (she doesn’t like chocolate, I know, it’s crazy, but she’s not a candy person… 😲).
But not to worry, I’m sure Santa will bring her things that will make my eyes roll to the back of my head….😉 but it most certainly will not be something that costs 100s of dollars that she will never, ever, play with or use.

When people asked me what to get Reilly I said toys that he will grow with. I know my family. They were buying something anyway so… we also got him clothes and teethers to for his stocking and a food thing. We have maybe 5 or 6 gifts for Reilly and one came as a three pack I’m separating. And to be honest he only has so much because there are kids in my life that still believe. Love you and completely get it!
